How Big Is God ?

How big is God?

Have you ever thought about God in all His power and might and absolute sovereignty? His authority and presence in His creation is unimaginable. Our reason for evangelizing the lost above all is to glorify God. Three hundred million years from now, all that will matter is whether we are in Heaven or in Hell. Oh how we, want to share with others what He has done for us in kindness and grace through the complete work of Jesus Christ on the cross. Consider the following in trying to grasp how big God is and then know that it doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of reality.

The Milky Way Galaxy where we live is about 100,000 to 130,000 light years wide. A light year is the distance that light will travel in one year at a rate of 186,000 miles per second. One light year is equal to about 5.88 trillion miles. If our galaxy is at the low end 100,000 light years wide, that would make it 100,000 X 5.88 trillion miles wide! That is only our galaxy there are millions more in space.

If you thought that was big, here’s where it gets really big. Isaiah 40:12 “Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens? Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance?” (emphasis mine.) Now that is really big! Psalm 19:1 says this: “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”

When considering how all encompassing God is, how omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent He is, how can we but tremble at what we would be facing without His forgiveness? Proverbs 1:7 says “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools [a] despise wisdom and discipline.” This is my motivation for sharing the Gospel with a dying world. Still, I sometimes let fear get the best of me and let opportunities go by. I can only pray that this fear of man will only drive me to my knees in prayer in order to serve my God more obediently.
